About the Course

This session will equip professional accountants with practical, factual, and up-to-date insights into the parameters that shape the assessment of contributory pensions, including the most recent updates announced in Budget 2026. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how these factors influence both current and future pension entitlements, together with an overview of other key social security provisions relevant to their professional practice.

Course Trainers

Mr Mark Musu’ joined the Public Service in 1986 and has since held a wide range of roles within the Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity and the Department of Social Security. In December 2005, he was appointed Director for EU & International Affairs, followed by his appointment in November 2008 as Director (Strategic Development and International Relations) within the Department of Social Security. In November 2012, he assumed the role of Director (Pensions Strategy). Mr Musù was appointed Permanent Secretary in March 2013 within the Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity. He has been reconfirmed in this position four times, most recently in March 2026, serving as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Social Policy and the Family. During this time, he has also concurrently served as Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Social and Affordable Accommodation and the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, as well as Deputy Chairperson of the MCESD. He also serves as Chairperson of the Pensions Strategy Group, which was responsible for delivering the latest strategic review report of 2025 aimed at ensuring the adequacy and sustainability of Malta’s pension system, and forms an integral part of the Low Wage Commission.
