About the Course

Participants will be exposed to basic vocabulary and grammar of Maltese Sign Language. The vocabulary content will include dates and numbers, emotions, family, education, clothes, food, animals and so forth. By the end of this course, students will be able to communicate with members of the Deaf Maltese community at a basic level.

4. Xogħol + Skola (Work and School)
5. Ikel + Nieklu barra (Food and Eating Out)
6. Safar + Divertiment + Sports (Going Abroad, Hobbies and Sports)

Course Trainers

Ms Dorianne Callus

Ms Callus is a professional Maltese Sign Language tutor and has been lecturing at the University of Malta, Department of Education, since Year 1999. She is also an active member of the Deaf Association and has been part of this Association since Year 1995. Dorianne has also worked as a research assistant with the Department of Linguistics, University of Malta, compiling the dictionary of Maltese Sign Language between 1999 and 2010. She is also a news broadcaster in Maltese Sign Language with PBS and has been working with them since Year 2000.

Mr Karl Borg

Mr Borg is a professional Maltese Sign Language Tutor and has been lecturing at the University of Malta, Department of Education, since Year 2000. In addition, he also lectures at Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology. Mr Borg was also an active member of the Deaf Association where he occupied various roles including that of the ‘President’ between Year 1990 and 2007.
