About the Course

Parenting is a topic that everybody talks about, and certainly everyone is exposed to in some form. This short course will give you the opportunity to think about parenting in the context of the couple relationship, understanding conflict and different styles of parenting. Importance is also given to understanding the impact of a number of factors on the parent-child relational interaction and on child behaviour and temperament.

Course will cover Parenting Styles and impact on parent-child relationship/child outcome/ and approaches to child discipline; involving both parents/ understanding gatekeeping and other expectations within the parenting relationship; Conflict and abuse, and its impact on adults and children; Setting boundaries and protecting the couple/parent/ family unit; Child temperament and the couple relationship context.

Course Trainers

Dr Ingrid Grech Lanfranco is a Counselling Psychologist and Systemic Family Therapist by profession, and currently Head of Department of Child and Family Studies, within the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, at the University of Malta. She has over 20 years experience in the clinical feed working with couples and individuals. Her PhD focused specifically on the effectiveness of the ‘Parents as Partners’ co-parenting programme on couples’ relationship and their infant showing a highly reactive temperament.
